Re: alfa-digest V8 #51 - dead Bosch FI fuel pump

Bruce,
Roll under the car and feel the fuel pump as someone tries to start
the car. If you get nothing, check the fuse under the rear carpet area first.
I have seen the fuse for the fuel pump get so hot that it melted the
inline fuse holder. Replacement fuse holders are readily available at any
auto parts store.
The main fuel pump requires a flow of gasoline for cooling /
lubrication. The quickest way to wipe out the main pump is to run out of
gas. You can literally run out of gas, or you can do the same thing if the
intank fuel pump fails. Or you can run out of gas if the rubber inside the
fabric covered fuel lines deteriorates. In the latter case, there should be
a strong smell of gasoline and your trunk may be awash.
The Bosch Spider, the Milano and the GTV-6 all use the same main fuel
pump.

The Spider intank pump can be rebuilt. Go get a Delco #EP254. It is
an exact replacement. I had to mix and match some of the hoses and
connectors, but the pump is exactly the same.
