RE: 164Q CD Changer and ignition switch

The error codes for the CD changer are all listed in the stereo owners
manual. I can't remember what error 5 means, but with my Q I found that
the stereo was just like the rest of the car - needed exercise. Try
loading up the magazine full of CDs and just let it cycle through them
repeatedly until something plays. On some mornings it would have a
problem again would straighten itself out.

Eventually I changed the stereo for a Sony unit (which I love, ask me
for more details if you are interested), since mine only played sound on
the right.

I would also love to hear about disabling the stupid button for the
ignition switch - it adds no value, and only makes removing the key a
pain in the butt.

Subject: 164Q CD Changer and ignition switch

Hi all,
well, I finally picked up the 164Q I purchased a while ago. It is a
fantastic car. I could go on for hours about it, but I will refrain.
There are a number of issues I would like to resolve with the car. The
two
most important issues are the CD changer that does not work and the
ignition switch.

I am getting Error 5 from the CD Changer (on the stereo display) when I
try to play a CD. I have the CarDisc, but have not been able to find a
listing of error codes. Can anyone tell me where I can find this
information?

Also, I remember reading a while back about disabling the locking
mechanism that prevents removing the key from the ignition without
pressing that silly button. Does anyone have that digest post handy, or
could tell me what is involved in disabling the locking mechanism? I'm
sure I could figure it out, but it would be nice to hear what is
involved
first.

Thanks,

Karl
