Milano rear-end thumping noise

Alfisti,

When traveling over bumps in the road ("wash board
style") or going over the raised lane markers on the
freeways, a loud thumping noise occurs from the rear
of the car. 

The noise sounds like it is coming from the passenger
side rear, but it is hard to tell. The car has
recently been fitted with a new pair of "stock style"
Boge shocks as it was suggested by my Alfa mechanic
that the noise was due to worn rear shocks.  However
the noise still persist. 

Any ideas on what the cause and solutions are to stop
this annoying thump will be very much appreciated.
