re: fwd and rwd again

cm smith sez:
"...The fact is the fwd outperforms the rwd until you get to drifting the car. The geometry of the drive wheels relative to the central axis of the car means fwd will ALWAYS out corner rwd right up to the point you need to slide the car to point it down the next straight. This means that for the street fwd will always be superior to rwd. Anybody who thinks different just doesn't do the math let alone actually drive back to back fwd against rwd..."

emmo sez:
"In the US, if you want a RWD car, you can look at Ford (Crown Vic/Gran Marquis/Town Car)..."

And have fun tossing a couple of tons around. Seems like the real issue is fun anyway. Really high HP and torque needs RWD and/or AWD. More modest sport sedans can get around a track quite well with FWD so they must handle well, but different. If that so and so is turning better times with similar hp and he has FWD which we all know is inferior then he must be one hell of a pilot. So how do you get you jollies? If you like the feel of RWD admit it but don't waste energy convincing yourself it's 'better'.
====================================
to both ideas above, i say *exactly*! :>) one of the fastest (if not *the* fastest?) street-cars i ever owned was a suzuki swift gti - ya know, that geo metro w/a 3-cyl 1.0 engine that's been described here, recently? well, this was the car, w/sport suspension/tires, and a 16-walve 1.3 4-cyl. i could lose anyone in anything, w/that car - the more traffic, the easier it was! ;~) if i ever said rwd was *better*, then i sincerely apologize. as emmo sez - i admit i just like the *feel* of rwd better...

regards to all,
