Gregg, you won't be able to just drop the motor in because the Alfetta
crankshaft has no pilot shaft bushing for the transmission input shaft. You
can have it drilled but that would require pulling the engine apart. The
other difference is the oilpan. Depending on model, after installing the pan
from the Spider engine you may have to plug the dipstick hole in the block.

I have a funny story about this. I had two engines apart, one from a Spider
and one from an Alfetta and I used most of the Alfetta parts to build the
Spider engine and vise versa. Anyway, to make a long story short - I got the
Alfetta engine assembled and installed in the car and poured in 7 quarts of
oil. Only then did I notice that there was no dipstick and no place to put
one!

Hello all,
Simple question for someone who knows; is there any difference in engine
format between 2000cc Spider and 2000cc Alfetta (Sports Sedan)? I have an
opportunity to pick up a good running 1979 Alfetta Sports Sedan (for
pennies)
and would like to use the motor for my '74 Spider. Did they accomplish the
different transmission layouts without altering the block?
