RE: Tires

Glenn:

Are those track tires R-compound? If so, they make terrible street
tires even if they are legal.

This was explained on the Porsche list so I'll just quote it here:

"All "R" compound tires (and racing tires) are subject to heat cycles.
Every time they are heated, they lose a little of the grip. There are
only "xxx" number of in a set of race tires, and then the grip goes
away. Typically all R-compound tires start with a grayish cast on the
tread and as they go to a bluish cast it's indicitive of the tire being
used up and going hard. So every time you are taking the car out, you
are subjecting the tires to a heat cycle and the grip will not be as
good as the time before."

Two other reasons you don't want to use them: 1) they are noisy 2) they
pick up a lot of sand and dirt and will sandblast your fenders.
