cylinder honing, piston ring minutia

digesters,

i am soon going to undertake replacing the piston
rings on my 2.5l V6 (recall i broke one while
replacing a liner o-ring), with 90k miles on it.

i have couple questions that i don't remember seeing
covered in the recent cylinder honing thread(s):

1) as per the honing thread, i am ordering a ball
style hone. but what grit should i get? standard
choices are 120, 180, 240, and 320. i am thinking that
since i am just going to break the glaze in order to
bed the rings properly that a fine grit like 320 is
the way to go.

2) once i've got it back together, what procedure
should i follow to seat the rings? there's no info on
this (that i've found) in the shop manual. braden
offers a couple different methods (slowly increasing
engine load over many miles, to hard going from the
start) - but i'd like some more concrete thoughts on
this. also, how long is too long to let the engine
idle once fired up? do i need to look out for anything
while doing the compression test when i button it all
up?

thanks,
