Yes, keep the front cover (and preferably the Motronic).  It might also
be easier to use a GTV6 style plenum.

Motor mounts should not be a problem, as I'm pretty sure the 12v 3.0
used in the 164 still has the studs for the GTV6/Milano style motor
mounts.
