Richard,

You might want to do an actual side by side comparison between the original 
gas filler boot and the one you got from ReOrig.  I had the same problem, 
until I compared them.  The new one had an extra amount of rubber around the 
edges, and I trimmed that off and was then able to get the spring back on.
