I had the similar problem on my Duetto 1967. I turned out to be the
synthetic oil (just my 0.02) I used after the last change of oil. The
oil made the rubber boot crack and then the oil came out through that
way. I had to fill iit up several times every motnths so I finally got
a reconditioned tranny and removed the old one. The rubber was as hard
as glass on the old one. I then took a piece of the boot from the top
and put it in a jar with synth tranny oil. After one month, this piece
was as hard so it cracked too.

Si, IMHO I think you need to replace the boot or the tranny box.
