<E28> Trunk Won't Unlock

My 1988 E28 M5's trunk seems to be permanently locked.  I 
locked the car from the trunk last night, but was unable to 
unlock it from the trunk this morning.  When I used the 
driver's side lock, the doors all unlocked normally, but the 
trunk lock didn't budge.  Up to this point, I haven't had 
any trouble with my locks or the trunk latch.   
 
I'm assuming the problem is electrical (the "unlock" signal 
isn't getting to the trunk lock or the trunk lock solenoid 
has a problem) versus mechanical, because the problem 
happened suddenly. 
 
Any advice for this seemingly "Catch-22" problem of needing 
to fix the trunk lock, but the trunk can't be opened?
