     I own a 93 E36 and  have experienced "valve tapping" on deceleration 
     since  the car was new.  When I lift of the gas and let the engine 
     brake the car I hear a relativley loud "valve tapping" sound.  It is 
     very noticable when driving on the highway next to a "jersey" barrier 
     which tends to reflect the sound.
