engine woes

Dear scouters,

Just took the scout to the inspection station. Among other things, my HC were
6X the allowed ppm's. So, I took it home and started tinkering with it. To my horror,
I discovered that I could unplug 4 of my plug wires at the same time without affecting
my idle. The cylinders that wernt firing were every other one, I guess thats why it
idled smoth enough that i couldnt tell before. I checked compression on one side of my
engine and the numbers ranged from 80-110. Is this causing my bad emmisions? Im guessing
I need my heads rebuilt W/hardened seats. Is it possible that some of my cylinders are
not firing at idle but are firing at higher RPM's. I ask this because It seems to have
plenty of power. Yes, I did double check the firing order. Can any one that has done it
latly tell me how long it takes to remove heads, have them rebuilt, and then re-install?
I dont have much time before school starts agian. If any one sees a hole in my logic
please stop me before I take the plunge and start taking things apart.

Or,should I just drive it like this and hope nothing else goes? TIA.

-Grant, who is verry unhappy about tearing into his engine after
just finishing up the trany swap
