International Harvester Scout
My father in-law found this ad for me.  It's a 1962 advertisement.   For those of you on the IHC-Digest, you'll be interested to see that the Scout offered the "93 HP 4-cylinder Comanche engine..." this early.  Click on the ad for a better view.

What is the Scout?

Only one year old...and the SCOUT by INTERNATIONAL has captured the interest and fired the imagination of Americans as few other vehicles ever have.  Why?  Because it's a new idea in low-cost transport - with a backbone for business, and plenty of spirit.  Here's the full story:

The SCOUT was designed to help people do more things in more ways than any other vehicle ever built.  If there ever was an all-purpose vehicle, this is it!

Public utilities, contractors and oil men are finding the SCOUT an efficient helper on and off the highway.  Thousands of small businessmen are using the SCOUT for retail pickup and delivery jobs.  Repairmen use it for service calls.

And on weekends, wherever they want to go, whatever they want to do, their SCOUTS take them there...and look good doing it.

People all across the country are buying the SCOUT.   Here are some reasons why:

It's comfortable.  There's plenty of room on the 55-inch wide seat and good head room in the cab.  Instruments are easy-to-read, controls convenient, door openings 39 inches wide.  Optional heater and defroster are available.

Go where you have to in a 4-wheel-drive model SCOUT.  Cross streams, plow through snow, sand or mud -- along with steady traction, you get high ground clearance because gas tank, muffler and lines don't hang below the sturdy box-section frame.

Move out in a SCOUT.  Its 93 hp, 4-cylinder COMANCHE engine will speed you around town, pull a loaded trailer or take off across country.  Derived from the time-tested, tough INTERNATIONAL Truck V-8, it squeezed the last inch of mileage out of every gallon of gas.

The SCOUT surrounds you with safety.   Big-country visibility, deep-dish steering wheel and over-size brakes are appreciated by all good drivers.  And, because the 5-foot pickup box is separated from the cab, you load can't shift up ahead in a sudden stop.  Also, the gas tank is in the rear fender well -- not under your seat.

Easy to service.  You stand in one place to lift the hood and reach dipstick, battery, distributor, air cleaner and radiator cap without moving.  You can get at the tool box area without removing the seat.

The SCOUT takes on a wide variety of jobs.   Choose from such options as a winch, 78-in. snow plow, power takeoff, trailer hitch, flotation tires, extra 11-gal. gas tank, soft vinyl tops and other equipment for special jobs.

Ask your INTERNATIONAL SCOUT Dealer or Branch for a demonstration.  Test drive the SCOUT under any conditions you choose.  the price for the model you want makes a pleasant surprise.

$1776.41  Manufacturer's suggested retail price of SCOUT rear-wheel-drive model, including both steel cab top and directional signals, but excluding state and local taxes where applicable and destination charges.  International Harvester Company, Chicago, Illinois.
